The business was established in 2006 at the Old Petrie Town to re-establish the history of rum production in the area with the Normanby Rum brand being used to celebrate the heritage of rum production in the area with the Normanby Rum Distillery having been located on the South Pine River in Strathpine from 1875 Strathpine until it's closure in 1968. At its peak during the period from 1875 to 1968 the Normanby Rum Distillery rolled out more than 5,000 litres of rum a day and when it closed in 1968 the Normanby Rum Distillery was believed to be Australia's oldest rum maker.
The rum distillery business is being offered for sale, including the corporate structure, stock, assets and intangibles, sufficient for an entrepreneurial entity to re-commence distilling operations. The owners are happy for a lease to be negotiated on the current premise at commercial market rental or for the business to be relocated.
